Review: KWorld USB Hybrid TV Stick Pro

20100921

If you're the sort of chap who can't be bothered to tear your eyes away from your PC monitor but still need a regular fix of the idiot tube, you're in luck as KWorld's USB Hybrid TV Stick Pro happily nips the issue in the bud and more.
This handy little device is a USB dongle that not only lets you watch and record both terrestial and digital TV channels, it's also able to let you tune to FM radio on your PC or notebook too.
Out of the box, you get the TV tuner dongle as well as a cornucopia of associated tackle – a remote control, a DVB-T antenna, a FM antenna, an RF adaptor, an extension cable along with an installation CD. While extensive, our main quibble here is that the cables are too short for my liking; would a few more inches hurt?
Up close, the tuner dongle comes with three ports spaced throughout its casing – the antenna connector proper, a USB port and another smaller one for AV/S video input cables. A prudent measure are ventilation ports interspersed on the side though the unit doesn't give off much heat. While it does get a bit warm after several hours of use, the heat is hardly a bother. The remote sensor is integrated into the dongle as well, so you don't have to sacrifice another USB port just to use the remote.
Setting up is a breeze, just plug in and install the software on the included CD and you're good to go. The software will guide you on the first time install and is relatively idiot proof.
When tested, the video quality, sound and transmission was good; almost on par with watching regular telly on the idiot box. Depending on your PC configuration, you may notice some slowdown though this is negligible on a current gen PC unless you're wont to leave multiple programs open.
To wit, the KWorld Plus TV Hybrid USB Stick Pro is a nifty little gadget that can handle both analog and digital TV wherever you might want to use it, especially if you're on the go and still want to catch a show.
